Exploring some of Canada's most exclusive retail destinations.

On May 30th 2024, the Retail Design Institute Canada took to Canada's highest-performing shopping centre, Yorkdale Mall for our annual Walking Tour. Attended by a vibrant mix of design and retail professionals, we explored the innovative and meticulously crafted design elements that make Yorkdale Mall a standout destination.

The evening kicked off with a warm welcome from the Oxford Properties Group, who hosted an insightful overview of Yorkdale Mall's history. Attendees learned about the mall's evolution, its strategic tenant mix, and the architectural features that set it apart from other shopping centres in Canada. The discussion highlighted Yorkdale's role in driving retail innovation and how it continues to shape the shopping experience.

Guided by the expertise of our very own Bess Liscio, attendees enjoyed an insightful look at the design principles and creative processes behind some of Yorkdale's most exclusive storefronts. Each stop on the tour revealed the unique stories and design philosophies that define these premium brands.

Highlights from the tour included Arc’Teryx, Diptyque, Aesop, Thom Browne, Acne Studios, Reigning Champ, and Loewe. The evening wrapped up at the #RHCourtyard Restaurant, where we enjoyed cocktails, canapes, and lots of great conversation with new and old friends alike.

Thank you to our generous sponsors, Biyork Floors, Crown Surface Solution and Dama Construction and event collaborators Oxford Properties Group, RH, and Smith + Andersen.

The Retail Design Institute Canada continues to look forward to creating a platform and more events, where design and retail professionals can connect.

Stay tuned for our next event!
