Empório Santa Maria is an 11,000-sq.-ft. specialty market. The design team employed a central axis that acts as a boulevard allowing visibility to all departments from bakery to butchery. Large signage calling out major departments assists the customer journey.
A variety of materials create contrast between different departments – from the luminous marble suggesting freshness in the bakery, charcuterie, cheese and butchery areas — to the warm dark colors used in the wine cellar, wine bar and sushi bar. The lighting plan further contributes to defining each department and store zone.
Judges commented that materiality, environmental graphics, wayfinding and fixturing solutions are stars elevating this retail food environment.
