Event Recap: 53rd International Design Awards Presentations




On Tuesday, December 10th, the Retail Design Institute (RDI) and AIA New York hosted the 53rd International Design Awards Presentations at the Center for Architecture in New York City. This event celebrated innovative retail design projects from RDI’s International Design Competition, highlighting excellence across categories such as department stores, restaurants, kiosks, and pop-up shops.


The evening began with remarks from Stephan Jaklitsch (AIA) and Annie Greenhouse (RDI), followed by recognition of notable projects unable to present, including the Citizens NY Marathon Expo, Crate & Barrel, and Sorel. Key presentations featured Petco: The Health + Wellness Co., focusing on health-centric retail transformation, and Store of the Year: Tiffany & Co., showcasing its flagship redesign by Arcadis and Tiffany's team.

The event concluded with a Q&A moderated by Sharon Lessard and Alec Zaballero (RDI), followed by networking. Attendees celebrated projects that push boundaries in planning, design, and visual merchandising, leaving inspired by the future of retail innovation.
