The original Ogilvy Montréal store opened in 1912 and was “modern” for its time thanks to loft spaces and continuous windows facing Sainte-Catherine and Avenue Montaigne. The location soon became an important cultural landmark and was known as “the store of light.”

Over the past 109 years, various renovations eliminated most historic detailing and features in the 250,000-sq.-ft. store. The Holt Renfrew Ogilvy team and its consultants at Jeffrey Hutchison and Associates worked to bring back the spirit of the original store.

The team decided to turn the original internal columns -- found on each floor -- into a major design statement that would provide reference to the building’s history.

By reopening as many windows as possible and introducing minimal interior rooms and enclosures, customers experience the store’s spaciousness.
