Innovation Awards for Concept and Brand Activation

In just three months, the design team at Api(+) and Lowes Food knocked out Knock Knock Spirits.

This new liquor store concept for the North Carolina-based grocery chain debuted as a 568-sq.-ft. store – formerly a shopping cart vestibule – that takes inspiration from the speakeasy era of 1920s Prohibition.

The use of dark colors for fixtures and wallpaper, contrasted with brass accents and white marble helps set the Prohibition-era vibe. Illuminated fixtures help feature and elevate merchandise and there’s a jazz music soundtrack to set the mood.

The narrow space has been transformed into a highly efficient liquor store through clever space planning and detailing. To remain within budget, the design team used existing utilities and mechanical systems.
