Whole Foods Market asked D.L English Design to create a dynamic new look for its Sherman Oaks, Calif., location. The 56,000-sq-. ft. store replaces two existing Whole Foods stores in the area.

By upgrading and enlarging the square footage and offerings in the new location, the design team hoped to transform Whole Foods presence in the community from ‘first generation crunchy health foods store’ to the 21st-century version the Whole Foods Market.

Design for this location is a playful retelling of LA “Valley” streetscape and culture - car-centric, wide boulevards, ‘60s drive thrus, gas stations, billboards, backyards, swimming pools, bar-be-ques and lots of sunshine.
